The State of Iowa Algebra Aptitude test is an online test given to 7th and 8th grade students. We are planning on administering the practice test on Friday and giving the test on Monday. Students will know their score immediately upon completing the online test.
Sixth grade will be working on Vokis - speaking avatars that will allow students to explain all about integers.
Seventh grade will be learning Google SketchUp and working with scale factor as they either blueprint out their golfcourses, or design their dream home with at least one interior room decorated and furnished. Eighth grade will be learning Scratch, a programming software which allows students to use their "if-then" thinking The 7th graders will have a test over ratios, proportions, percents, decimals and fractions on Thursday, April 26.
Sixth grade math test on Monday, April 9 on mean, median, mode, range, and reading graphs.
Seventh grade test on Monday on the measures of central tendency and analyzing data. Eighth Grade ICAM math test has been scheduled for Thursday, April 19. If it has been some time since you've logged into Calculation Nation, there is a new game awaiting you called Dirt Race. I encourage you to check it out!

Sixth graders: complete the multiplication and division decimals gyms by the end of January
Seventh graders: complete the multiplication and division decimals gyms by the end of January. Eighth graders: complete the adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers gyms by the end of January. All gyms must be completed to the gold star stage. At least four class periods will be provided during January to accomplish these goals. There are a few new pictures posted on the website, as well as pictures of our Circumference Tree.
Wondering why your middle school child was assigned making a chain of paper loops? Measuring and reading rulers is a skill needed in middle school, reading measurements through at least eighths.
I asked students to measure and make a pattern strip that measured 6 7/8 inches long by 3/4inches wide, and then create enough of these strips to reach from floor to ceiling (about 90 strips). We assembled all of these chains into a circumference tree that will be the framework for many geometry activities featuring circumference, area, perimeter, surface area, volume, and rotational symmetry. Stop in and see what your students are learning. Let me take a moment to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving.
