This last week-end, a new game was added to First in Math. To find it, go to Bonus Games, skillset 3. It is the Skip Game. There are four rounds to play, and you can earn up to 320 stickers for this game. Check it out.
Seventh grade math students will have a quiz on Thursday. Topics covered will be reviewed in class on Wednesday. Topics include properties, scientific notation, metric conversions, identifying coefficents and constants, nested expressions and order of operations, solving variable expressions and variable equations, and counting terms contained in variable expressions.
8th grade goal (due November 26) is the integer gym, all four operations, all to large trophies and Know & Show 3.
7th grade goal (due November 26) is the game decimals more or less, all four rounds completed. Thursday, October 14 is a test in eighth grade. The test will cover our entire ratio unit. Topics are simplifying proportions, determining if two ratios form a proportion, scale factors, unit rates, similar polygons, finding unknown lengths in similar polygons, and indirect measurement. We will review on Wednesday. ( A good place to hone your skills is with the games in my ipodmath blog.)
A math test was given today over fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, improper fractions, greatest common factors, least common multiples, and prime factorization; every student passed with a grade of a C or higher. Awesome job students:)
Students in the eighth grade were introduced to school weblockers, a digital storage system, today. Seventh graders will be introduced to the weblockers on Wednesday. The students have unlimited storage on the internet for their computer files (word documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations, images, videos, pdf files, etc.) The weblockers are accessed with a username and password. These weblockers may eliminate the need for flash drives, and are another tool to organize school work. Students can also set up their personal calendars to track due dates and use the message board as a collaboration tool. The weblockers are new to our school this year.
The first rotation of seventh grade exploratories ends September 24. Make sure you have submitted both of your math/computer assignments by the end of the explore rotation. Problems?? See Mrs. Royer or Mrs. Darling.
Incomplete assignments will result in the student receiving a 30 minute detention. Detentions must be served according to the student handbook. If you do not want a detention, simply do your work as assigned.
